With acts of collaboration and connection, Nelson based contemporary jewellers Katie Pascoe, Joel Fitzwell and Kay van Dyk form creative object-making under their band name Project 21. Their first exhibition outing was at Te Aratoi o Whakatū The Suter Art Gallery with Sierra. Echo. Victor. Echo. November. Over. in 2018.
Since then Pascoe, Fitzwell and van Dyk have gone to play the ultimate game of collaboration in the Exquisite Corpse. Based on the surrealist game of the same name, jewellers Kay van Dyk, Joel Fitzwell and Katie Pascoe construct a series of necklaces with a top, middle and bottom without knowing what each other has made. Together they are assembled to make a jeweller’s Exquisite Corpse.
Exquisite Corpse was exhibited as part of the inaugural Nelson Jewellery Week in March 2021, where 9 necklaces were shown at 18A Project Space, Nelson. They have since exhibited the following series at The Jewel and The Jeweller in New Plymouth, Molly Morpeth 2022 Whakatane, Viewfinder Window in Whakatū and NJW 2023. The complete showing of the 21 corpses and all seven series have been been hosted by
